Touhou Puppet Dance Performance Guide

Please make sure you are checking the correct guide for your game because the base game and the expansion are very different!

Also, for those looking to purchase Shard of Dreams, please be aware that you must already own the base game and have it installed correctly. Patches are not necessary on the base game if you are only buying it so you can have Shard of Dreams.
Save files for both games are separate, although you can import your base game save file to the expansion to get your Puppets reincarnated and get the ability to use your exact starter (same IVs and mark, just at level 5) at the beginning of the game.

If you are new to PDP, please also check this link out for basic information and terminology.

Please support the creators who gave us this wonderful game by purchasing the game!

  1. Hello again, i have two questions.

1- Wich version are you playing?
2- Can you (if not a problem) give me a dowload link for your version or teachme how to patch? i just want to be able to select my waifu as a starter instead of reimu (i hate her)

    1. 1. I am still playing 1.01 because I'm lazy and haven't bothered to patch yet / I don't want to mess up what English translations I have until a full English patch is complete.
      2. I bought the game so I'm afraid I don't have a download link, but I can help with the patch! I can at least help get the patch started. I'm not going to actually patch until the English translation is complete though, just in case.

The link to the official website is here: http://www.fo-lens.net/gn_enbu/

The section with the red text (製品版アップデートパッチ 1.13公開しました!) is the download section for the patch. The blue text at the bottom is the link. Click that to get to another page. On this page, click on the big blue link saying >製品版アップデートパッチ1.13ダウンロード<.

As a note before I continue, the webpage says to back up any saves. These can be found in the game folder under Save and it should say something like gn_enbu.sav.

Anyway, the blue link will bring you to OneDrive. The file you're looking for is labelled 1.13. It looks like the one on the center and right are the same, but I'm not 100% certain.

Save the .zip file wherever, and extract gn_enbu_r113_update.exe. That's as far as I can get before I'll mess up my stuff, but I would assume that you run it and it should work. As a side note, from what I understand, it is difficult / impossible (not sure) to get it work on illegal copies of the game.

The only way to be certain that the patches will work is to buy the game off of Melonbooks (http://www.melonbooks.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=IT0000177135). There's a good tutorial of how to maneuver the website here: http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/forum/index.php?topic=416.0.

There are a few different reasons why you could have been forced into Reimu as a starter. Did you talk to everyone at Hakurei Shrine including a man with glasses?

    2. Actually, the game now has three patchers, which each one only goes up to a certain point. The first goes to 1.10, and is required to use the second patcher. The second goes to 1.20, and is required to use the third patcher. The third patcher goes to the current version, which there's an English patch for on the Touhou Puppet Play forums.

    3. Oh, almost forgot. The English patch isn't 100% yet, but most, if not all, of the NPCs have their dialogue translated.

    1. Are you talking about the English patch, patches for the base game, or patches for Shard of Dreams?

    2. If you want to translate the original game into English, you can read this: http://puppet-dance-performance.blogspot.com/2015/07/fantasy-puppet-dance-performance-update.html

If you want to install Shard of Dreams, you can read this: http://puppet-dance-performance.blogspot.com/2016/01/fantasy-puppet-dance-performance.html

  4. Hi!

First things first, I am making an in-depth guide of both Puppet Dance games and I want to thank you for this amazing guide of yours because it helps a lot!

I am currently replaying the original Puppet Dance (with English translation) to make a complete walkthrough of it. After that, I will work on Shard of Dreams.

Here is the link to my blog if you are interested: http://puppet-dance-performance.blogspot.com/

I have posted how to download and patch the game, and also the expansion for people who want to play. However, the guide is still in progress, so it may be a little messy.

Once again, thank you for making this guide! ^^

  5. So if i want to play the shards of dreams expandsion...does this mean that i will loose my prgoress in the previous game..? (I played it on the 1.34 patch update and has gone far enough that i don't want to completely start over....)

    1. Kind of, and kind of not. First of all, while the expansion requires you to have the original installed, it does not overwrite your original game. It is essentially standalone. It will give you the option at the beginning of the game to "import" your original file. If you choose to import, and you select the same starter, then this starter will have the same IVs and nature (I think) as your original. Later on, far into the postgame, you will be able to import your original Puppets as well.
So to answer your question: You will not lose your progress in your original game, but you will have to start the expansion at the beginning.

    2. Forgot to add that importing your file to the expansion will have no effect on your original file.

  6. Hi again Jenna! I want to ask an important question (in my opinion): may I use some of the parts of your guide (the directions, items, etc.) for the guide I am compiling? I will not copy word for word, of course, and I will add things you might have missed. I am asking this because some places (like the Moriya Shrine) are too hard to draw on a map like I always do, and I also want to credit on the work you put for the guide.

    Thank you for your answer!

    1. Hi! Thank you for asking!
I am fine with you utilizing my guide, so long as any paraphrased sections are properly cited and such.
Just please be aware that I am about to undertake my second playthrough and as such some parts of this guide will be getting an overhaul (looking at you, Forgotten Hell section...).

    2. I am currently descending Youkai Mountain, and I will draw maps by myself dungeons such as Makai or Former Hell. I will only use your descriptions for building-heavy areas such as the Moriya Shrine or the Prismriver Estate. I have used your guide on Moriya Shrine, and I credited your blog and put a link to the original post.

Thank you for your permission! Your guide is very helpful, especially because I need to get the base game guide done before Fall starts so I can start making guides for Shard of Dreams! ^^

    1. well in my opinion, you have to finish the story game first, cause Giant toad pond is a part of finding the Rainbow M.Stone, which is the important thing for Reincarnation.

  10. The translation project for Shard of Dreams has been discontinued. Hopefully someone else will pick up the project, but until then, don't expect the full translation to ever come out.
